Chancellor increases financial support for businesses and workers

Firms whose premises are legally required to shut for a period over winter as part of local/national restrictions will receive grants to pay the wages of staff who cannot work, and a cash grant to support fixed costs.

The government's Winter Economy Plan includes additional support for businesses which have been impacted by COVID-19.

The Job Support Scheme is designed to protect viable jobs in businesses who are facing lower demand over the winter months due to COVID-19.
Businesses in England that are required to shut because of local interventions will now be able to claim up to £1,500 per property every three weeks.
