Europe is a true hotbed of innovation. The INVITE Open Innovation 2.0 LAB has been designed to harness this strength, while encouraging cross-border collaboration between SMEs and giving them the opportunity to talk to big manufacturers and service providers who are seeking genuine business solutions.

Here’s the idea; your business can apply to solve the following real challenge set by a global automotive business:

The Challenge

Propose, design and demonstrate an application that can run on Android and iOS that allows an administrator to quickly create (<5 minutes) a customised concern log that can then be used by an operator or inspector to record information as it is observed.

If you submit an initial idea that shows great potential, you will be paired up with a European SME to collaborate, develop, refine and prototype your solution even further. You and your European collaborator will be given a €5,000 innovation voucher to support your efforts. Once you’ve scoped your idea, you’ll be introduced to the companies who’ve requested the solution – which will be your chance to win some genuine new business from a large corporate company.

During your journey, the OI 2.0 LAB team will be with you all the way – making introductions, helping you prepare and answering any questions you may have.

It’s well known that Europe is a leading generator of cutting edge ideas, yet a great deal of these never come to fruition. In response to this, the North East and Stuttgart, Germany have been selected as the pilot areas to test the Open Innovation 2.0 LAB, an exciting project matching international businesses that have industrial challenges, with SMEs from across Europe who can provide solutions.

Open Innovation 2.0 LAB is a two year Horizon 2020 project managed by partners from Greece, Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany and the UK.

Open Innovation 2.0 LAB has two main aims:

1. To get you in front of big businesses that have real business opportunities for you

2. To foster collaboration, as we’re firm believers that collaboration can lead to amazing things

You might think you have the final solution already but by working with a European partner, you’ll get another perspective – they’ll see your solution with fresh eyes and can work with you to add the cherry on top of the cake.

So, when you submit your final idea, even if it doesn’t get selected to move forward in Open Innovation 2.0 LAB call, at the very least, you’ll have a European partner who you can continue to work with on other collaborations – what’s not to like about that?
