At our next Growth Hub Live event in April, we’ll be hearing from the co-founder of online social lending business Zopa, which has been described by the Guardian as ‘the pioneer of peer-to-peer lending.’
Giles Andrews led Zopa through a period of dramatic growth, raising a total of $33m from European and US investors, and we’ve invited him to share his experience of raising, managing and maximising finance to make a business a success. Before co-founding Zopa, Giles’ career began in the motor industry, where he co-founded Caverdale, a motor dealership which he took from start-up to a £250m turnover, before the company was sold in 1997.
It’s going to be a valuable opportunity to get some inspiration and advice from someone who has the direct experience of harnessing finance to grow and scale a business – North East businesses who have the hunger to significantly grow their business and do things differently are invited to come along to what should be a fascinating event.
As part of the event we’re also hosting a panel discussion with North East businesses and investors, plus a finance marketplace, giving direct access to a range of private and public sector funders including the £120m North East Fund.
Giles’ CV shows that he can recognise a scalable business model when he sees one, and he has the first-hand experience of leading a company during times of rapid growth and expansion.
I’m looking forward to hearing more from Giles about what he’s learn along the way and how his lessons can be applied by businesses here in the North East.
